Men's Vibram® Altitude Ion-Mask™ Boots
Waterproof boots just entered a new dimension with the introduction of ion-mask™ from Hi-Tec - a plasma-based technology that alters the molecular structure of the surface of the fabric so that water simply beads and runs off. It's also breathable, durable and, as you'd expect from Hi-Tec, very lightweight. That's because this boot is designed and built using V-Lite technology, using full grain leather uppers with a fully gusseted leather tongue; a soft, padded leather collar; a moisture wicking lining; rustproof hardware; a Comfort-tec sockliner; a Stabila-Flex contoured bi-fit board; a lightweight, shock absorbing CMEVA midsole and an exclusive Vibram® outsole. Hiking has never been so comfortable!

Treating new boots
What treatment is recommended for the leather of Men's Vibram® Altitude Ion-Mask™ Boots which I have ordered. Just a good leather polish/balsam? or would this affect the treatment.

As long as you stick to a Water based proofer you will be okay. I would not reccommend using a beeswax type product as this could affect the membrane. Nikwax and Grangers both make Water based proofers. I hope this helps you.

Please see the following guidelines from Hi-tec to help you care for the boots:
Do not use any alcohol based cleaners or solutions. If need to be cleaned wipe over with a damp cloth and dry naturally away from any direct heat.
Do not need to be protect with anything before use.
Normal boot polish can be used to keep the leather supple if required, as long as the polish is not alcohol based.
Normal boot polish can also be used to cover scratches etc to maintain the appearance of the boots.
We ask that you please read the contents of the chemical makeup of any products you apply. Any alcohol-based agents will strip the technology away and render it less functional. We believe a waxy waterproofing such Nikwax Aqueous brand finish can work well. Again if the tin indicates alcohol-based materials, we do not recommend its use.
